About Friendship Road
The
acquisition of social skills is one of the most important areas of
development in a young child. For many children, the path to successful social skills may be difficult, either by way of diagnosis (High Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder, Asperger Syndrome, Non Verbal Learning Disorder, ADHD, Anxiety Disorder), or delays in social development and/or learning differences. Children can gain proficiency in social skills through direct instruction, role playing, repetition, coaching and playful implementation of social strategies.
Friendship Road is dedicated to providing engaging, developmentally appropriate activities and experiences to help build and strengthen positive, successful relationships. In small group settings, children will learn new skills through social stories, video modeling, discussion, interactive and cooperative games and activities, unstructured/pretend play, visual prompts/charts and bibliotherapy.
Examples of the social skills that might be introduced are as follows: whole body listening, greetings, non-verbal body language, taking turns, sharing, being a good sport, strategies to cope with emotions, etc.
Friendship Road is led and facilitated by Jenna Krook M.S., who worked in a private clinic for more than twelve years facilitating social skills, self-esteem and anger management classes. Jenna has worked as a School Psychologist in the Mt. Diablo School District and in the San Ramon School District. During the last three years she has applied her efforts
to teaching, supporting and promoting the social and emotional development of young children.
